LEICESTERSHIRE JUNIOR
SQUASH RACKETS ASSOCIATION.
COUNTY CLOSED 2013
The Junior County Closed Event was held at Leicester Squash Club, London Road, Leicester on the 28th/29th September 2013 and this year 72 entrants took part. The bulk of these came from two clubs, Leicester Squash (32) and Market Harborough (22).
The event started at 9am on the Saturday, concluding around 4.30pm on the Sunday with a presentation of trophies and Dunlop racket and bag prizes. During the weekend the standard of behaviour of entrants was excellent and many offered to mark matches which is always helpful.
A special thank you must go to Paul Muttock of Splosh Plumbing and Heating for his generous donation of £500.
For the first time in many years there was a full 16 draw in the U11 boys’ age group. Hard work in the county’s development programme and by coaches at the local clubs seems to be paying off.
The event organiser, Gill Freeman, gave a short speech giving various thanks to those who had helped to make the weekend run smoothly. Special thanks were given to the members of Leicester Squash Club for allowing the club to be taken over for the whole weekend and to Iain Bell and his wife for supplying refreshments throughout the tournament. The event trophies were presented by Robin Clements, Chairman of the Squash League Committee.
From the results of the weekend players will be invited to join this year’s county junior squads and to attend seven coaching sessions throughout the year.
The Junior Committee has received generous donations from both the Men’s and Ladies’ Squash Leagues to help provide these invaluable training days.
