Leicestershire u19 Boys travelled to Coventry and North Warwickshire Cricket Club for the se cond leg of their inter-county tournament, which took place Sunday 27th January, to compete against teams from Warwickshire, Buckinghamshire and Gloucestershire.
The Leicester team, in playing order were; Jack Turney, Tim Arthur, Patrick Sadd (all Mkt Harb), James Payne and George Morgan (both Hermitage), played well to ultimately come a very close third place to Warwickshire’s second place at the end of the day.
The first tie against Warwickshire, which would be the most instrumental in deciding our final placing, was a very tight affair with Leicestershire finally losing 3-2 in matches. Leicester had their chances as two of the matches, Patrick Sadd and James Payne went to five games, James winning his fifth game 18-16, George Morgan having clinched his first match with an excellent display of controlled squash. Jack and Tim lost their matches to highly ranked national players, Brian Harvey and Jack Mcelvenny.
Leicester’s second tie against Buckinghamshire turned out to be a very one sided affair with Leicester winning 5-0 in matches and yielding a maximum 20 points. Jack Turney had the closest result eventually winning 3-2 against a nationally ranked Joe Yerrel, finally winning 11-6 in the fifth set.
Gloucesterhire provided the greatest challenge for all the opposing teams on the day with wins over Warwickshire and Buckinghamshire when they finally lined up against Leicester for the final tie of the day. Leicester also found Gloucestershire too strong losing all their matches although Jack Turney who was playing his last match for the u19s managed to win a game against nationally ranked Kyran Young.
Final results were: Gloucs 56 pts; Warks 43 pts; Leics 30 pts and Bucks 3 pts.
